"We don't discuss our future guests with anyone, " said the nuns of Mount Alvernia, a home run by the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood in Surrey, England. The future guest in question was film star Deborah Kerr, who has made arrangements to retire there eventually. Deborah, whose screen roles have always bordered on the virtuous, knows Mount Alvernia well. She put her own grandmother there, and she lived to be 96. The home is famous for its tranquillity and the longevity of its inmates, and the nuns produce all their own vegetables and bake their own bread. As Deborah is only 54, - as of this written note - and married to writer Peter Viertel, her retirement is still quite a long way off, but she's convinced her decision will prove to be the right one when the time comes.
